Chapter 1: Freewriting Exercises
Chapter one of college reading and writing really got into depth about what a free write is exactly and the goods and bad of a free write. A free write is someone writing on a topic or really anything and being completely open and forgetting about every little rule of spelling. For me my spelling is awful and so is my writing strategies so free writes are wonderful for my benefit. They will help me spell better over time and not be so self conscious about my writing. I believe by writing a free write once or twice a week will get me comfortable with extending my vocabulary and although my words may have improper spelling at first over time it should improve. They will also benefit me in being open minded relaxing you to express yourself on a topic. I was very surprised that we had this assigned for English. I thought for sure I was going to be watched consciously on spelling for every assignment. So these sound great!

Hello Samantha, I REALLY can relate to you, I tend to misspell words and vocabulary isn't very good either. I'm glad to find out about this free writing exercise. I Didn't know that it was allowed. This free write helps me go back on my writing to see my mistakes and learn from them. This free write exercise also gives me a chance to improve in my spelling and any other areas that i weaken.
ReplyDeleteHi Samantha,
ReplyDeleteWhat I love about "Freewriting Exercises" is that it reminds us that writing shouldn't always be the high-stress, high-stakes concept we have of it. Our perception of writing and the expectations we have change the very nature of writing; it's difficult to enjoy and excel at anything we put such high expectations on, and fear.
I think the reading also reminds us that writing has multiple forms and is a process. If everything we write needs to be perfect, then we'll never truly explore ideas because we'll be too afraid of writing down our messy ideas. Elbow reminds us that before we can get to the drafting, revising and editing steps, we first need to generate ideas.
Thanks for your ideas.
Take care,
Lauren
Hi Samantha,
ReplyDeleteWe are opposites, for you this free writing is great, you are able to let go of the mistakes and just write, for me it bugs the heck out of me knowing that there are mistakes in my writing even though that is the rule of the writing. I cannot wait to reach that point and just let go and try not to think of my mistakes.
So far I think that this English class is a good one as well, who would of thought that we would be able to free write, make mistakes and not worry about editing, thats what English is all about right. ha!! Well enjoy this class and I had a good time reading you blog!

Hello Samatha,
ReplyDeleteComfortable writing is what I am striving for. At the current time, it is extremely uncomfortable for me. Like you, the freewrites sound awesome and something that I can do. Although the perfectionist in me will have to work hard to not use the backspace and correct myself. I believe the freewrites will help all of us to become better writers. Good luck to all of us, I know we will do great.

I really enjoyed the free writing exercise we were able to do. I think if we can get back to basics and not be to uptight about rules and such, we will be able to create better products. I found that the free write helped get other things off my mind. Even though it was just ME, I felt better getting it "out"!
