My name is Samantha. I recently graduated from Piner High School and I am currently working on obtaining my Associates Degree at the SRJC. I plan on majoring in Animal Science and then transferring to Sonoma State. I will choose a career from something that makes me happy, but as of now I am undecided. I know I will work with animals, I just don’t know what field at the moment.
I am very outgoing 18 years old, and was born and raised in Santa Rosa, California. When I am not in school during the winter I love to snowboard with friends. My favorite season of the year is summer. I enjoy going to Hawaii because I really love the waves and ocean. I am a big risk taker because I love trying new things and going places. I am also I huge animal lover. I have 4 dogs that are full of energy and all different sizes. I love to hike and go on walks with them. I am taking English 100 this semester and I hope to have a better idea of how to write better and work on my grammar/spelling. When it comes to school I like to have time to accomplish assignments and I usually get my homework done before hand. When it comes to exams I would rather be under pressure. I am usually good at pop quizzes because you don’t have time to second guess yourself.
It has taken me several years of school to finally figure out what I want to do. unfortunately no school in this area has a program for what I would like to do, which is Ultrasound Technology. I decided to go with Pharmacy Technician. I wish you luck in class this semester and on your quest to figure out what career you would like to do. I like that you want to do something with animals. I do not think that enough people go into the field of animals. It seems to be fairly rare that you hear about somebody going into that field. I am glad to hear that you are one of those few people.
ReplyDeleteYou seem like a very motivated and determined Person, that really impresses me. I'm sure you'll do great! I'm glad to hear that you love animals, they are so adorable and unique in their own ways. We do have some things in common, I also like learning visually, it works out better for me I guess and doing work beforehand so I can get it done early so I won't fall behind. You seem like a very nice person, who loves life and animals. I hope to get to know you better and I am glad to be able to work with you throughout this semester.

Hi Samantha,
ReplyDeleteYou sound like you know what direction you want to go down in terms of your career. That is great! I am 40 years old and it has taken me many different careers to figure out what I really want to do. Animals are great and I have always had a love for animals as well. You sound very passionate about doing something to surround yourself around what you love. There is nothing better than finding a job where you really like what you are doing. I am very passionate about taking care of people and that is why I want to become a nurse. I have four kids so I have a lot of experience. I also, am a visual learner so hopefully we can all work together this semester and succeed in this class. Good luck with your classes and we will talk soon.

Hi Samatha,
ReplyDeleteIt's great to meet another animal lover! I think it's great that you are going down a career path that will let you work with them. Working with animals really is a joy. I have volunteered at Wild Care and the Humane Socitey as well as interned at a Vet Hospital. All of the experiences were great.
Good Luck!
Hi Samantha,
ReplyDeleteWow, you sound just like my daughter so much energy that will definitely get you places. I too love animals our sweet chocolate lab sierra passed a year ago and we still miss her desperately. We are now in the process of looking for another chocolate lab and we can’t wait to get her. Hawaii is such a great place my husband is from the Big Island, he came to the main land in 1974 and had not been back until 2007 were we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. So you’re not sure what you would like to do yet as far as a job don’t worry about it I did not find my calling till I was in my early 40’s I’m sure that it won’t take you that long but make sure you pick something you love. You made a comment on pop quizzes that is so true it is better to just go for it, because if you don’t know it, you don’t know it. I look forward to working with you in this class.
Hi Samantha,
ReplyDeleteI too attended Piner High School. I was a cheerleader and made varsity captain my senior year. However, I gave up the position because I got pregnant with my now 6-year-old. Life. I think it's perfectly ok that you don't exactly know what you want to be. I, along with all my peers went through the same thing. I am just now finding myself and knowing that I want to be a nurse. It took six years and still there is a possibility that it could change. It's cool that you are an animal lover. I was traumatized by dogs growing up, so I keep them at a distance. However, I like cats! I have two orange cats named Daisy and Duke. I like your energy and social personality, I could feel it through your blog!
Thank you so much for your words of encouragement, we will be looking at the pound first for a lab puppy,if nothing there we will look on the outside. We can't wait!! OK talk with you soon
ReplyDeleteHi Samantha!
ReplyDeleteI also attended Piner High School and graduated in 2004. I did go to the JC right after graduating but then found out that I liked to earn money more than going to school so I stopped going to school after attending the JC for two years. I just started to continue my education last semester hoping to get my bachelors in Business Management. After reading that you would like to work with animals but not to sure in what, I would suggest that you look into possibly working PT at a vet hospital or at a clinic. I did work for a vet hospital for a few months and after that I realized that it was not for me, but if you try it you could at least find out more information in that field and really get the feel of working directly with animals. I'm sure if you ask, some doctors will even let you volunteer to get a little more experience. I wish you much luck this semester and feel free to contact me at any time if you are needing any help.

Hi Samantha,
ReplyDeleteI think some people know from the start what they want to do, some people only think they know what they want, and the vast majority of people are still trying to figure it out.
When I was a junior in college, I was forced to speak with a counselor because I hadn't yet declared a major. Her advice to me was to do what I love. At the time, I thought it was the worst advice; I wanted a concrete answer. I needed to declare a major, after all.
I decided to major in English since I liked to read and write. I had no idea that this one decision would eventually take me to three other states, and lead to a husband, a family, and a career teaching English. Trust me, at the age of 20, there's no way I could have imagined I'd end up an English Instructor at Santa Rosa Junior College. I had to live and get new experiences first; each step and decision is taking me closer to where I need to be.
Thanks for helping me reflect on this!
Take care,
Lauren

ReplyDeleteHi Samantha,
ReplyDeleteI'm just like you when it comes to majors and life choices; undecided. But I'm sure as we continue our journey through life, our goals become more clear.
Your so lucky to have gone to Hawaii probably more than a few times. I still have yet to make plans on going. My Husband and I are planning to go there in March. We didn't get a chance to go on our honeymoon when we got married almost five months ago.
Good luck, and I hope you are happy with what ever decision or plans you set for your self.
Take care,
Susie
Hello Samantha,
ReplyDeleteLooks like we got the same goal, obtaining Associate degree and transferring to Sonoma State University. Since you are an animal lover I think you should definitely look for your career in Animal science. Unlike you I’m not an outgoing person. I spend most of my time on my couch watching movies or playing video games or spend my time working out at gym. But I really want to learn snowboarding, hope you can teach me.
Sujan.
